UP student leader Lordei Camille Anjuli Hina attacked, in critical condition

UP student leader Lordei Camille Anjuli Hina attacked, in critical
condition latest, Four men attacked and robbed a student leader inside
a student council office of the University of the Philippines Diliman
on Wednesday.

Lordei Camille Anjuli Hina, who is secretary-general of UP Center for
Nationalist Studies and a fourth year political science major, is now
in critical condition, Yahoo! Southeast Asia has learned.

Student newspaper Philippine Collegian reported Hina was stabbed with
an ice pick just above the left temple, fracturing her skull and
knocking her unconscious.

The report said the UP Diliman police have arrested one of the
suspects, a certain Carlo Pecayo who will face charges of robbery and
frustrated homicide.

Pecayo's three accomplices are still at large, the report added.

The police recovered Hina's bag, two laptops, and ice pick from the suspect.

According to Hina's friend who was with the victim before the attack,
the suspects introduced themselves as tattoo artists and would like to
apply for a booth in the upcoming UP Fair.

The two students gave the number of the officer-in-charge for the fair
booths to the suspects but Pecayo insisted that he would just wait for
the OIC outside the office, the Collegian report noted.

Hina, left alone at the office, reportedly sent text messages to her
friend asking for help.

"Umakyat ka na rito. Andito na naman si kuya. Ang dami niyang tanong,
hindi ko naman alam," read one of the text messages as quoted in the
student paper.

When Hina's friend returned to the office, the victim was already
sprawled on the floor, her face and upper body drenched in blood.

The Collegian reported that UP is beefing up its security measures
inside the campus.

BlackBerry Torch 9810 Price and Specs Philippines Php 28,590

The previous Torch was aimed towards capturing a new customer base
that was attracted towards an all touch screen smartphone, while also
maintaining their traditional customers who are used to the physical
QWERTY keyboard. It allowed users to enjoy both the benefits of a full
touch screen and a QWERTY phone in one device. But one limitation they
faced before was that the previous BB OS interface is not optimized
for touchscreens. Considering this, I can say that the BlackBerry 9810
is a substantial improvement over the older model.

In the same manner as its predecessor, BB Torch 9810 allows users to
enjoy multimedia content (videos, games, and surfing) on its large
screen while still allowing the speed and accuracy of typing on a
slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard. But what exactly makes it better
than the 9800? Well, 9810 has these new key features:
A higher resolution display
A more powerful 1.2GHz processor
The new BlackBerry OS7
Internal storage and RAM has been increased to 8GB and 768MB respectively.
The improvements stated above will bring the following benefits to BB
9810 users: First, the Torch 9810 the higher resolution display will
allow users to read texts more easily. Second, the more powerful
processor shall enable the device to launch BlackBerry Applications
faster. Finally, a marked improvement in the interface of the new BB 7
OS introduces a better touch screen experience, which I will discuss
in a separate article. On paper, the 9810 is definitely an improved
version of its predecessor mainly because of its improved screen and
innards and the new software.

The Torch 9810 will be available through official retailers in the
Philippines on January 13. The retail price of the model is Php
28,590.

Chief Justice Renato Corona's 40 properties in 9 years- Prosecutors

Latest Chief Justice Renato Corona's 40 properties in 9 years-
Prosecutors, Renato Corona and his family amassed some 40 properties
in the last 9 years he was in the court, House prosecutors claimed on
Thursday.

Impeachment spokesman Miro Quimbo said that based on records from the
Land Registration Authority, Corona and his family have 45 properties,
houses and condo units, mostly in Corona's name, with others in his
wife's, children's and in-laws.

Quimbo said that based on Corona's last available statement of assets,
liabilities and net worth (SALN) in 2002, only 5 of the 45 are
registered.

"The question we want to raise there is - when the Chief Justice filed
his last SALN in 2002, his net worth was at P13.9 million...The bulk
of these properties have not been identified or included in his SALN
of 2002. If he was being honest in his SALN, then he acquired these
properties after he became a justice of the Supreme Court in 2002,"
Quimbo said in an ANC interview.

Quimbo said the properties are material to their accusation that the
Chief Justice acquired ill-gotten wealth when he joined the Court in
2002.

"There is a property that is in his name. It is not even in the name
of a corporation or anybody else but it is in his name or the name of
his children, which apparently cannot be supported by his
income...There [are] a lot of questions raised as to how or whether
the salary of a justice of the Supreme Court can actually buy all
these properties over a 9-year period," he said.

The properties are spread out in Makati (1), Paranaque and Pasay (1),
Marikina (8), Taguig (12), and Quezon City, (23).

Fourteen of the Corona properties are condominium units while the rest
are houses.

The information on the Coronas' properties is contained in the request
filed by the House prosecutors today to subpoena the Coronas as well
as the documents related to the properties.

International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Angel
Honrado announced on Wednesday that the terminal fee for international
flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will go down from
P750 to P550 effective February 1.

Honrado explained that the five-year implementation of the additional
P200 collection for improvements in airport security will lapse by the
said date.

Honrado also defended management over the continuing protest of
employees because of the non-release of their Christmas bonus last
year.

The MIAA general manager said that the 14th- to 17th-month pay being
demanded by the employees has not yet been approved by the task force
on government compensation, as mandated by law.

Many airport employees say they are relying on the bonus to augment
the budget of their families for the coming year.

UN agency confirms Iran nuke work at underground sites

Latest, UN agency confirms Iran nuke work at underground sites U.N.
nuclear agency on Monday confirmed that Iran has begun enriching
uranium at an underground bunker to a level that can be upgraded more
quickly for use in a nuclear weapon than the nation's main enriched
stockpile.
Comment from the International Atomic Energy Agency came after
diplomats said that centrifuges at the Fordo site near Iran's holy
city of Qom are churning out uranium enriched to 20 percent. That
level is higher than the 3.5 percent being made at Iran's main
enrichment plant and can be turned into fissile warhead material
faster and with less work.
"The IAEA can confirm that Iran has started the production of uranium
enriched up to 20 percent ... in the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant,"
said an agency statement, which used the alternate spelling for the
site.
Western nations condemned the move — even though it was expected, with
Tehran announcing months ago that it would use the Fordo facility for
20 percent production. Iran began to further enrich a small part of
its uranium stockpile to nearly 20 percent as of February 2010 at a
less-protected experimental site, saying it needs the higher grade
material to produce fuel for a Tehran reactor that makes medical
radioisotopes for cancer patients.
But with the time and effort reduced between making weapons-grade
uranium from the 20-percent level, the start of the Fordo operation
increases international fears that Iran is determined to move closer
to the ability to make nuclear warheads — despite insistence by the
Islamic Republic that it is enriching only to make reactor fuel.
Its dismissal of findings by the International Atomic Energy Agency of
secret experimental work on a nuclear weapons program also worries the
international community.
France warned of stinging international retribution for "this new
provocation." A Foreign Ministry statement said the move "leaves us
with no other choice but to reinforce international sanctions and to
adopt, with our European partners and all willing countries, measures
of an intensity and severity without precedent."
British Foreign Secretary William Hague condemned the "provocative act
which further undermines Iran's claims that its program is entirely
civilian in nature."
Tehran's "claim to be enriching for the Tehran Research Reactor does
not stand up to serious scrutiny," he said in a statement. Hague said
that Iran "already has sufficient enriched uranium to power the
reactor for more than five years and has not even installed the
equipment necessary to manufacture fuel elements" out of the enriched
material.
Iran recently threatened to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, an
important transit route for almost one-fifth of the oil traded
globally. Tehran also has been angered by the West's efforts to
sanction Iran over its nuclear program, including a possible ban on
European imports of Iranian oil.
Fordo's location increases concerns.

Dungeons and Dragons plans a comeback revealed

Latest Dungeons and Dragons plans a comeback revealed Take Dungeons &
Dragons, for example. Since it debuted in 1974, the granddaddy of all
role-playing games has been around for decades, drawing legions of
loyal fans from around the world.
But, despite the board game's name recognition, it isn't a mainstream
powerhouse. The makers of D&D want to change that, and they're asking
their loyal users for help. A buzzy article from The New York Times
explains that a new version of the game is in development, "the first
overhaul of the rules since the contentious fourth edition was
released in 2008."
The publishers of the game are seeking feedback from the game's
players. What sort of rules do the players want? The New York Times
quotes Liz Schuh, who directs publishing and licensing for the
franchise. "We want to take that idea of the players crafting that
experience to the next level and say: 'Help us craft the rules. Help
us craft how this game is played.'"
