Repair of Buendia-Osmeña flyover costs P46M

A contractor has began repair work on the Buendia-Osmeña flyover along South Superhighway as safety measure against earthquakes. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started the initial phase of repair and rehabilitation of the Buendia-Osmeña flyover along South Superhighway.
The agency has earmarked P46.67 million for the repair, said DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson. The contractor, Tokwing Construction, is set to finish in four months the flyover’s structural safety against earthquakes.
The project covers epoxy injection of cracks, repair of bridge deck superstructure by epoxy grouting of concrete, and fiber reinforcement polymer (FRP) along with the reconstruction of railings, construction of median barriers and installation of electrical bridge lightings.
Other repair works include scraping or scarifying and removal of the existing asphalt pavement of the flyover, re-paving of the bridge deck with asphalt and replacement of the base and sub-base materials for the approaches.
DPWH has mapped out a traffic re-routing plan to avoid traffic jams during the two stages of the repair project, added the official.
During the project, some of the lanes will be closed, allowing a two-lane, two-way traffic scheme.
Some vehicles along Osmeña Highway will be diverted and required to use the section of the highway or the road beside the flyover in crossing Buendia Avenue. The southbound lane of the flyover will be open to two-way traffic.
Motorists can also use the road section along Osmeña South Superhighway and will be advised to take other routes such as EDSA (from Roxas Boulevard to Magallanes Interchange) and Roxas Boulevard (from P. Burgos St. or Luneta to EDSA).
