Michael Ray Aquino to go back to Philippines to face Dacer-Corbito murders

Police Colonel Michael Ray Aquino
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to extradite former police official Michael Ray Aquino from the United States.

US marshals are ready to transport Aquino from New Jersey, where he is detained, to Los Angeles.

Aquino, according to the US Department of Justice (DOJ) attaché, must be out of the US on or before July 3.

The US Department of State has written the Philippine DOJ informing the Philippine government that it has signed the surrender warrant for the return of Aquino, pursuant to the RP-US Extradition Treaty.

In a letter to DOJ dated June 7, 2011, US DOJ Attaché Robert E. Courtney III, Embassy of the USA, Manila, said US Marshals for the District of New Jersey have been directed to surrender and deliver Aquino to authorized representatives of the Philippines.

Aquino is a co-accused in the November 2000 Dacer-Corbito murders.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima issued an urgent memorandum for NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula to immediately assign 2 NBI agents to fetch Aquino from the US.

Arrangements will be made with the US justice attaché for this purpose.
