Tropical depression Egay lashed out rains in Metro Manila and several parts of Luzon as it accelerated towards the northern tip of Cagayan.The nonstop rains on Sunday flooded several parts of Manila, especially in Bagbagin in Caloocan and Catmon in Malabon.
Traffic was heavy in Manila, coupled with the fact that some 250,000 people trooped to Luneta in celebration of Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday.
Some 16 domestic flights were also cancelled at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Based on the 5:00 p.m. update of weather bureau Pagasa, Egay was seen 140 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.
It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center. It is moving northwest at 19 kilometers per hour.
It is expected to be 200 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes on Monday afternoon.
Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan, Babuyan Group of Islands, Batanes Group of Islands, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
The public storm warning signals have been lowered elsewhere.
