Bagyong Egay will bring strong rains to the eastern side of the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said more rains are expected this weekend as tropical depression “Egay” continues its northwest movement.

Science and Technology Undersecretary Graciano Yumul told radio dzMM on Saturday that because of the size of Egay (350 km in diameter), strong rains will affect Luzon.

“Ine-expect natin na ang mata ng bagyo ay magla-landfall sa bandang Cagayan,” Yumul said.

He added that Egay will bring strong rains to the eastern side of the Philippines.

Rains brought by the southwest monsoon will also affect Zambales, Bataan, National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Mindoro, and Palawan, said Yumul.

PAGASA expects Egay to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday. However, another weather disturbance is expected to enter PAR either by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

“Kapag pumasok ang LPA o low pressure area sa PAR, isa na siyang ganap na bagyo. Falcon ang pangalan niya. Base sa numerical model, hindi siya tatama sa Pilipinas. Didikit lang ulit siya sa northern Luzon. Lumalabas mas malakas siya kay Egay,” said Yumul.

Public storm signal number 1 was raised in Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Polillo Island, Aurora, Cagayan, Isabela and northern Samar, as of PAGASA’s 11 a.m. update.
