Tallest Rizal monument in Calamba City set to be inaugurated

In line with the country’s celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday, the tallest monument of the Philippine national hero is set to be inaugurated in Calamba City, Laguna on Sunday.
President Benigno Aquino III is expected to grace the event at 9 a.m.

More than a hundred relatives of Rizal will also grace the occasion.

Before the inauguration, Aquino will first raise the Philippine flag at Rizal’s house in Calamba.

Calamba City Public Information Officer Peter Capitan said the tallest monument was built at the 6.9-hectare government property in front of the new Calamba City Hall on Real-Bacnotan Road in Barangay Real.

The bronze monument is 22 feet tall or as high as a 4-storey building. The 22 feet symbolize the 22 dialects spoken by Rizal when he was still alive.

This new monument will break the record of Rizal’s statue in Barangay Kasal, Bayombong, Nueva Vizacaya which stands at 18.6 feet. – Report from Dennis Datu, DZMM
